Introducing a new series and an old friend…Camp Mom

I am so excited about today.  My good friend (from way back when) is here with a new series that I’m sure you are going to love!    Tara is the kind of friend who knows just about everything.  She is my go to girl for anything from politics to organic food.  Make sure to welcome her with some of those lovely comments that always make my day…. take it away Tara!

I’m so excited to be guest blogging over here!  I’m one of Jill’s biggest fans & am so proud of the amazing work she’s doing!

Let me tell you a little about me. In order of importance I’m a mom, wife, sister, friend, and (occasional) blogger.  I’m not quite as focussed as Miss Jill, and I like to write about a little bit of everything.  Kids, crafts, foods, politics, home, and the rest of the mess we call life.  I have known Jill for 17 years!! (holy cow we’re old!)

I’ll be joining you this summer to share some of my “Camp Mom” fun.  Camp Mom was born out of my incredible excitement to spend the summer with my little one.  He just finished Kindergarten & I was itching to have some fun!  I miss the freedom we had before school started.  The other side is the cost of camp.  I really don’t want him to be bored over break, so I considered sending him to camp, but the cost is prohibitive.

I always wanted to go to “sleep away camp”.  I dreamed of a Parent Trap like adventure….with out the long lost sister (I had 2 at home that annoyed me enough).  While I never went on my own, I did get to experience YMCA Family Camp at Sequoia Lake.  It was everything that I dreamed camp would be.  Even with our parents there, we were left to roam & explore, try new activities and take on new challenges.  We had a craft shack, canoes & paddle boats, a mess hall, campfire circle, we put on a talent show…you get the idea.

So the idea of Camp Mom was born of these experiences, the desire to create amazing memories, have loads of fun, and avoid summer boredom.  I’ll be sharing our experiences here & over on Tara’s Kitchen Sink.  I’d love you to follow along & share your own ideas as well.

I’ll be back next week, but if you want a preview of some of my ideas, check out my “Camp Mom” board over on Pinterest.  While you’re there, feel free to check out all my boards.

Tara is the mother of a funny, charming and extremely handsome 6 year boy.  She is revamping Tara’s Kitchen Sink a bit and getting ready to bring her readers a little bit of everything.  Make sure to follow her when you’re there… you won’t want to miss any of the brilliant things she has to say!

What a great idea! I always dreamed of the twin sister too, but did enjoy lots of great camps as a child and teen. Thanks for sharing this. Hoping to find lots of great ideas.
