Lego Storage and Display

We have a ton of Legos (or so I thought!) and I can guess that the collection will only get bigger.  Today’s post is not about how wonderful our Lego storage solution is, instead it’s a list of the Lego storage solutions others use.  Ours is a work in progress…

We use a large under the bed container.  It works pretty well, but as you can see it’s full.

Our Lego Storage Needs

1.  Lego’s can be moved from room to room. (By the builder… NOT by Mom and Dad.)
2.  Easy to find the right pieces.
3.  Somewhere to put the works-in-progress as well as the finished pieces.

Great Lego Storage Ideas

I Heart Organizing has so many great storage ideas… this one is my favorite of hers.  A special (and pretty) place for manuals and people.  Genius!

Technic Bits

Evil Mad Scientist has an incredible how-to list for stacking like pieces together.  I can’t imagine taking them apart to build (I’m not the Lego builder, so I’ll have to ask Big M ;) ).  I do love this compartment bin and it would probably be perfect for all of the little extras floating around in our Lego bin.

Wikihow has a lot of really great ideas for Lego storage.  I especially like the idea of keeping the Legos inside of a big blanket or sheet so they can be spread out.  How can I make that pretty and easy enough for M and M to handle on their own?  Hmmmmm.......

Lego Display Ideas

Love, love, love this idea!  Dukes and Duchesses made a Lego Wall Display for her little builder.  (I think it would be perfect for finished pieces as well as works in process!)

This picture is huge... but totally worth it right?  I am SO making one of these!  Three Paper Peonies deserves a round of applause for this beautiful Lego Display!

After spying on all of these other Lego collections, I see that Big M actually doesn't have that many Legos... yet.  I guess I should get a Lego Storage system under way before the collection grows!

This post is a part of the Lego lesson plan.

  1. We keep ours in large under the bed storage bin too, and lately I’ve been on the lookout for more storage ideas. We used to have them put out a blanket before they started playing with legos each time, but I haven’t been enforcing that much lately because they seem to have multiple projects going in multiple locations all the time…

I like the idea of the compartment bin the most but the lego wall display is pretty neat too!

Right now the legos live in the containers they came in. I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to display my boy’s creations, thanks for the ideas!

Thanks for sharing my Lego wall!

Have you ever heard of Lay-N-Go? You asked how you could make that blanket idea prettier and easier? This is it!

And, no, I don’t work for the company nor do I own one (YET) but when I read your post I knew you would appreciate it as much as I did.
