The letter of the week is M, and you know we love the letter M around here.
This Letter Box activity can be done with any letter, you might even choose to make it a permanent companion to all of the letter of the week activities.
what you need: a box ~ a small piece of paper ~ tape ~ marker ~ items all starting with the same letter
Have you read the series by Jane Belk Moncure? Each letter of the alphabet gets its own book. A character, “Little M” in this case, collects items starting with that letter and fills his box. You can read more about the series here. We started by reading My “m” Book. I pulled out the perfect box and taped a piece of paper to the side. I wrote an upper case and lower case M on the paper.
I quietly set the box out and added a few M items. Magnets, a microphone, marbles, money and a magazine were the things I chose. There are a lot more M things lurking around here, but I wanted to give M and M an opportunity to add things on their own.
What M items will you choose?
This post is a part of the Letter Series.

I love this idea! I am going to start making letter boxes
YEAH!!!
Love how you’ve done the box (and reuse it for each letter) I really like this idea. We used to focus on a letter a week when i was teaching. Good amount of time
Over from the kid blogger network. Can’t seem to figure out how to follow your blog though… I’ll have to have another good look. Cheers, debs

Love the letter box idea!
I am so excited! I went to my library site to check out a couple of the ABC books and realized I have the whole set of book. I don’t know if I’ve ever read them, but now I’m excited to use them with my son this year. He is very hands on, so I know he’ll love looking for stuff to put in the box. It will help him to review the letters/sounds he knows & don’t know. Plus it will help with beginning sounds. Thanks!
