Letter of the week ~ N ~ Noodle Painting

Last week we did Marble Painting on the Letter M.  I used a new technique for painting with marbles, and even though it was fun. . .I missed our old way a little bit.  So when I started thinking up ways to use our Noodles, shaking them in a box was the first thing that came to mind.  Of course noodles won’t roll like a marble, so I added a lid.  And the gentle swaying became a rough shaking.  Do you want to see how it went?

what you need: Letter N ~  construction paper  ~ tempera paint ~ a box (with a lid) ~ different types of noodle ~ a wild one with lots of energy!

Prep the letter before you start.  Print it out, cut it and glue it to a piece of construction paper.  I dug through our noodle stash and pulled out a couple of each type we had.  Little M wanted to start with the spaghetti noodles so we painted them and dropped them in the box.
I secured the lid, okay actually I did not secure the lid. . .what a mess.  So secure the lid;)  Then let your little one shake, shake, shake.  The noodles are heavy when covered with paint so you have to really shake hard.
Each noodle leaves a unique pattern, next time I think we will try using a different color for each noodle.

By now you have a pretty good idea that my Little M LOVES a mess, so I don’t know why I thought this would be  a clean activity!  This is what our noodle painting turned into.

Tips (to maximize learning):   1. This could easily be done in a shoe box, no need to buy a container.  2. Actually painting with the noodles was pretty cool too, Little M sure does know how to expand on her art projects.

Questions (to ask your kids):  ”What do you thing will be the best way to get paint on these noodles?”  ”Do you think all of the noodles will leave the same marks?”  ”Which noodle do you think left this print?”

Which letter activity has been your favorite?

  1. What a great idea! Painting is always a hit around here, so I’m sure the kiddos will love it! :-)
