Mother’s Day is right around the corner and we knew exactly what we wanted to give our Mom this year. Money. She is (like most Moms) always ready to spend on everyone else… but has a very hard time allotting money for herself. We started a savings fund for her birthday with money that is just for her and Mother’s day is the perfect time to fill it up.
We want her to have something lovely to look at too, so this money gift is both practical and beautiful! (And of course includes some kid art… cause that’s how I roll.)
Mother’s Day Money Gift Tree
What you need: Glass Bottle, Sticks, Construction Paper, Paint, Salad Spinner, Money and thin wire.
I bought the bottle, sticks and wire at our local craft store. Everything else I had on hand. Arrange the sticks however you like first. (I think this was the most challenging part for me… design is not my thing!)
I got a new toy… a salad spinner!!! Oh the fun we will have. I cut the paper to be the same size as two dollar bills side by side.
Salad Spinner tips (there was much trial and error since our new toy is so new). 1. The paint we were using was too thick. I ended up watering it down until it was pretty runny. 2. When we used paper the size of dollar bills it clung to the sides. The larger paper worked much better.
The day before we planned on putting together the Money Gift Tree, Hubs and I searched the internet for an easy and pretty origami flower. Once we found it we spent some time making beautiful 3 bill money origami flowers. I’ll let you follow the video, since she does such a great job of explaining the process.
Once the paint was dry I cut the papers down to bill size and helped the kids make spin art paint origami flowers.
Using the wire I attached the flowers to the tree. EASY!
I am thrilled with how our Mother’s Day Money Gift Tree turned out. I hope Mom enjoys the paper flowers long after the money is spent.
